Description

  • Foto Number: INW-101

This mask is a very rare piece and difficult to identify. It was acquired in 1878 from the Haida on the Queen Charlotte Islands, but it may have originated elsewhere. The form of the lines in the design and the shape of the face resembles a Heiltsuk or even a Tsimshian mask. With regard to many of the art objects, there is doubt as to who should be credited for them: the people who created them, or those in whose possession they were found and who made use of them? (MM>no NMM)
