Died in the summer of 2016, Maximilien Bruggmann was one of the greatest Swiss photographers. For half a century, he has travelled the world to illustrate some sixty works, seizing the flashes of humanity and moments of eternity. He often went with his friend Jean-Claude Bourgeon to the remotest places of the Saharan desert, to meet their nomadic friends or in search of rock carvings whose authors, photographers before time, have inscribed in the stone the snapshots of prehistoric life, at the time when the Sahara was green.
The exhibitions of Maximilien Bruggmann are rare events. Its photographic archives - close to 100,000 slides - are testimonies of great variety and extraordinary wealth, especially for prehistory and the life in the Sahara.
Maximilien Bruggmann, a graphic artist by training, photographer by passion, gave his photographs a rare aesthetic. The extreme care that it brought to their archiving made it possible to keep them in perfect condition.
