Light caravan

For one-day trips, the camel drivers leave behind bags, riding saddles, food and feed supplies at the camp. They will only ride the camels when the heat makes walking unbearable.

Gouloukou is marked on the map! The sound of the name is reminiscent of gurgling water. This is not surprising: Gouloukou is a fountain where tadpoles like to have fun.

View of the Adrar Chiriet

The Adrar Chiriet is a huge volcanic massif in the desert that is home to a small population of Barbary sheep, wild sheep of North Africa that look like ibex. For the caravans, this massif is an obstacle so they must walk around the mountains in the middle of the Ténéré.

Probably the coldest water in the Aïr! The sun never shines into the depths of this rock cleft on the trail to Toufouchi.

The end of the day

Driven by the sinking sun, the last camel drivers are about to join the camp, set up at the top of the erg Izane. The boiling hot day is followed by a freezing cold night.
