The barren desert landscape with giant cacti of the species Echinopsis atacamensis (also known as Cardón) in the Department of Potosí in the southern Altiplano of Bolivia. The plateau is strongly characterised by the dry, cold Puna. Alongside the massive Cardón cacti, the area is home primarily to hardy Thola shrubs and the characteristic Ichu grass. – Near Tomola – Bolivia – 1976
