Only a few decayed totem poles remain of Skedans, located on Louise Island, southeast of Skidegate. An eagle on the mortuary pole is recognizable by its wing; its beak is missing.

The figure of a bear is vaguely visible on the remains of these mortuary poles.

In this image from Skedans, a killer whale on a mortuary pole is "biting" the trunk of a tree, while the figure above it, a bear, "grasps" a branch. The battle against nature appears to be hopeless.
