Moghar and Taghtani (Algeria). - The famous slabs, which have been known since 1847 and were first published in 1849, are situated in front of a landscape that already hints at a desert. It has been said that the real difference between the north and the south is the palm tree: it gives dates in the north, hard nuts in the south. You can see the engravings on the slabs opposite the meagre gardens of the oasis. The deep and mysterious engraving at the bottom right is of Neolithic age. Perhaps it shows a man? But nothing is certain. This engraving is a first indication of an affirmed spirituality: it encloses an idea in a symbol whose meaning escapes us. Height: 0.97 m. - Algeria - 1971
