Creatures of the wind

At the edge of the Ténéré (Niger), the wind does and undoes its work, day after day. The Temet dunes are known for their moving and infinite harmony. The only boundary is marked by the Aïr Mountains, barely to be seen to the right.

The tree and the dunes

Why did it grow here? How was it able to survive? When did it die? This tree in the dunes has no name and no history, but its silhouette will continue to stand for a long time in front of the waves formed by the most beautiful dunes in the world. (On the edge of the Aïr and Ténéré, Niger.)

Ghardaïa

600 km south of Algiers is Ghardaia, the most important of the five hill towns in the M'zab valley and the last oasis before the Sahara. The city was founded in 1048 and declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1982. It inspired Le Corbusier for his architectural ideas.

The dunes will show the way

From a distance, the Sahara appears to be flat, but for the caravans of nomads, each dune is a major obstacle to be overcome while saving strength. This results in a tortuous path for the camels. A pathfinder on foot is responsible for determining the best passages. (Ténéré, Niger)

Great God

Painted under the protection of a cave in Tassili n'Ajjer (Algeria), the «great god» of Séfar (1.55 m) appears to be involved in a mysterious ritual, intensified by the malformation of his face, the size of his sex and the unexplained bumps on his arms. 1993

Arches of serenity

In the Sahara, sand and rocks hardly marry. The rock arches at Ti-Sfad allow one to find in the desert, sheltered from the winds, infinite calm, serenity and stillness (n'Ajjer Tassili mountains, Algeria).

Two giraffes

Deeply etched in the steady, flat rock, two giraffes (the largest measuring 6.50 meters) recount life at a time when men and animals lived together among the lakes, forests and green plains of the Sahara, six or seven thousand years ago.(Dabous, Western Aïr, Niger).
