Saharan Museum

To our knowledge, this is the only museum in Europe entirely dedicated to the history and people of the Sahara. Open to the public since June 2014, it is directed by Bernard Adell. The space is spread over two floors.

The level of reception is devoted to the exploration of the Sahara at the time of the French presence. The lower level contains an important collection of prehistoric tools and objects belonging to the traditional life of the nomads of the Sahara. Among the recent acquisitions are three giant photographs by Maximilien Bruggmann depicting rock art as well as the life-size reconstruction of a garamantic chariot over 2,500 years old.
