«Tierradentro» (Land, das drinnen liegt) gehört zum heutigen Siedlungsgebiet der Paez-lndianer. Man vermutet Zusammenhänge zwischen den Kulturen von San Agustín und Tierradentro, jedenfalls finden sich an beiden Orten ähnliche Wächterfiguren. Einen besonderen Platz unter den vorkolumbischen Kulturen nimmt Tierradentro jedoch wegen seiner Grabkammern ein: in Kreidesandstein gehauene, bis zu 70 Quadratmeter große Kavernen, die vollständig mit geometrischen Ornamenten ausgemalt sind. Das vorherrschende Rot erinnert daran, dass auch in Mexiko die Farbe der Toten Rot ist. - 1976

It is assumed that there is a connection between the cultures of San Agustín and Tierradentro, but in any case similar guardian figures can be found in both places. Tierradentro occupies a special place among the pre-Columbian cultures, however, because of its burial chambers: caverns of up to 70 square metres, hewn in chalk sandstone and completely painted with geometric ornaments.
